About Fulvic Minerals

Fulvic minerals are created by the long term decomposition of organic matter that then settle into deposits within the Earth’s crust. A variety of health benefits are derived from the fulvic and humic acids found in these minerals. Fulvic minerals may help boost your immunity, reduce inflammation, enhance cognitive performance, reduce tiredness, and enhance iron absorption. For these reasons, you may wish to consider adding a fulvic mineral supplement to your regular diet.

Where do fulvic minerals come from?

Natural, non-toxic elements from decomposing organic material like prehistoric seabed minerals can be found in the form of water-soluble compounds. Humful’s Fulvic Acid Complex is derived from this source and can be taken as a supplement for those looking to increase their intake of these beneficial elements.

Furthermore, fulvic minerals are present in various types of food items like wild harvested mushrooms, seaweed, kelp and other root vegetables.

These minerals are found in several different areas and compositions, and they are known by many names. The type that is most common is called shilajit – a tacky organic substance found oozing from rocks in Asia, also known as rock blood, and humic shale, overall is similar to shilajit, but it is traditionally mined in mountainous regions in the US (like in the Rockies or Appalachia).

For thousands of years, including in ayurvedic medicine – the oldest form of medical practice ever – unrefined substances like shilajit and humic shale have been used as a form of alternative treatment. While the scientific reasonings behind their use was unknown, the Fulvic mineral content made them a sought-after remedy.

They’ve also been used in agriculture for some time to improve harvest quantity as well as quality.

Fulvic minerals are also known as ‘Fulvic acid’.

What is fulvic acid?

Fulvic acid is a combination of natural substances produced via the breakdown of organic matter into its primary and secondary elements. These organic fulvic compounds collect together in soil, and help plants and fungi assimilate nutrition from the microbes in the soil.

Benefits of Fulvic Minerals

We touched upon some of the benefits of fulvic minerals in human health as well as in the plant kingdom. The most amount of benefit is realized is through the consistent presence of fulvic minerals. Here are some of the most important benefits that can lead to more optimal health:

Digestive Health

Being able to absorb nutrients through the food you eat is arguably one of the most important functions in our bodies. By improving the ratio of good bacteria in our digestive tract, those bacteria can more efficiently break down the foods and supplements we take, which allows the lining of our intestines to more easily assimilate those nutrients into our bodies. This boost in nutrient absorption can help provide your body with the essentials to rebuild and repair itself.

This can also help reduce symptoms of digestive issues like constipation, bloating, allergies, and diarrhea. And may also improve immune function, as our digestive system is on the front line, being fully exposed to the outside world through what enters our mouths and nose.

Cognitive Health

Fulvic mineral complexes have natural antioxidant properties, demonstrating its great potential in protecting against cognitive disorders that are founded in free radical damage as well as oxidative damage.

So much so, in fact, that this 2011 study found that fulvic acid demonstrated some positive outcomes in the deformation of tau fibril aggregation in vitro. See: Fulvic acid inhibits aggregation and promotes disassembly of tau fibrils associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

Detoxification

Fulvic minerals are powerful antioxidants, and the reason for this is that the dozens of trace minerals present have the ability to either donate or accept electrons from other compounds in the body. This allows fulvic minerals to bond easily with toxins like heavy metals and complex them into compounds that are more easily eliminated from our bodies.

A study of 3 tropical freshwater fish in 2012 demonstrated that fish that lived in waters that had higher levels of fulvic minerals, or what they called dissolved organic carbon, had lower levels of inorganic Aluminum found within the tissues of the fish. See: Dissolved organic carbon reduces the toxicity of aluminum to three tropical freshwater organisms.

Fulvic Minerals Side Effects

There have been few studies on the adverse effects of fulvic acid, and what has been studied has been relatively limited in size.

By conducting a study of 30 men, researchers found that it is safe to consume 0.5 ounces (15 mL) each day without the risk of undesirable outcomes. In some cases, taking higher doses of the medication can lead to mild side effects like diarrhea, headaches, or sore throat, though it could also be thought of as detoxification symptoms. Further research on individuals with HIV, one of many autoimmune diseases, has demonstrated that using 6,000mg of Shilajit daily as a dietary supplement for a period of three months is safe and does not induce any notable adverse reactions. Study Link.

Research has suggested that consuming up to 500 mg of shilajit a day for three months doesn’t produce major adverse effects in healthy adults. Study Link.

It is imperative that you consult with your physician prior to supplementing with fulvic minerals, or anything else for that matter.

The trace minerals can interact with the body to enhance blood clotting, which means those with clotting issues should exercise caution when considering supplementation. Those on replacement thyroid hormones may need to take extra steps in ensuring their ability to consume fulvic minerals. Immunosuppressant prescriptions may also be interfered with by the minerals. So do chat with a health care practitioner prior to use.

Fulvic Minerals Summed Up

Fulvic minerals, abundant in the natural health supplement industry, is said to help treat various illnesses.

Further research is required to verify and determine its effectiveness, dosages, and long-term safety, even though studies have suggested that they may improve immune system function, brain health, and reduce inflammation.

Before taking fulvic acid or shilajit, it is advisable to speak with a healthcare professional.
